hard times don’t mean give up

Sometimes when things are hard to do, we tend to think we were not meant to do it. Giving up can make sense to us, but the thing is, there would be no need to pray for anything if we were intended to just give up on hard things in hard times.

When I was young, I wanted to be a writer. It was hard for me to do because I had head trauma when I was very young. I almost died twice that night, but my life was changed. I had a speech problem, but that was corrected when I saw a speech therapist. I also had trouble spelling. That was a huge problem because we had typewrites and no spell check other than using a dictionary. It got easier with computers, but even spell check doesn’t work right all the time.

I was also up against my parents. When I told them what I wanted to do when I grew up, they said “no” and told me I needed to get a real job. I did what they wanted but never gave up on being a writer. I kept doing it and prayed for it. In hindsight, maybe I should have added the word “successful” to the request. Still at my age I’m good where I am and measuring success depends on how you define it.

I measure success knowing that lives would not have been saved if I didn’t overcome the obstacles I had. People would not have the ability to learn the knowledge I gained or find the encouragement to keep trying. I’m good where I am because I didn’t give up.

Hard Times brings us to having PTSD and what it is like as a survivor with it. It is hard but it didn’t not come into your life as some kind of punishment. The one saying I find extremely annoying is, “God only gives us what we can handle.” As if God did it to you, then you’d think there is no reason to pray to God if He dd it to you. The truth is, God gives us what we need to get through the hard times.
