This is the headline from The New York Times about Mark Wahlberg’s new movie Father Stu.

‘Father Stu’ Review: Screwball Salvation

Mark Wahlberg throws himself into the real-life story of an oddball priest in Rosalind Ross’s debut feature. Read more here.

In the trailer, he is preaching to prisoners and asks them how many calls they get to make. Then he reminds them that the people they call don’t give a crap about them but God does. This movie is a reflection of a faithful life, not a perfect one. That’s the greatest lesson we should all learn because none of us are expected to be perfect. Jesus didn’t come to save perfect people but He came to save the ones who not only needed saving, but knew they needed it and wanted it.

I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how to get people to read The Lost Son series. It dawned on me that these books are about faith in God and that is a topic that causes revulsion in too many because the only “faithful” people getting attention are those who condemn everyone else and preach hiding behind the faith they never understood. Guess they are too busy beating people of the head with the Bible instead of actually reading it. Such empty lives they live when their lives could be filled doing so much good in the world instead of trying to corrupt it.

Do not fear these books. The characters are all flawed, struggling and healing. There is drinking, swearing and doubts. The main character was supposed to be a priest but did not choose that life. He ended up preaching to the churchless children of God, just like me.

In Father Stu, when he told his mother he wanted to become a Priest, she asked, “For Halloween?” This is a real story about a real man and real faith. If you don’t read my books, then please, watch this movie and discover what you can do to #makemiracles in your own life and then pass them on to others.

The goal of any Chaplain, is to restore the connection with God, so, it doesn’t matter how you do it, as long as you do and then watch miracles happen! It’s time to get out of the darkness of doubt and into the light of possibilities~
