a time to heal

(If you are new to PTSD Patrol, featured videos are selected to deliver the daily message for your road trip toward healing. Whenever I drive, wherever I go, the radio is on!)

Sometimes when we pray to God, we get what we prayed for. Have you ever been shocked by your prayer being answered? Honestly, I think all of us have been surprised. Even though that is the purpose of prayer sometimes I am shocked especially when I stay calm when things go wrong. That is not my nature, so it has to be an answered prayer.

Today the featured video is The Byrds Turn-Turn-Turn.

That song came from Ecclesiastes 3

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

There is a time to recover too. When you survive the event that started PTSD, there has to be a time to adjust from the life you knew, into becoming a survivor. A time when you heal from the wound, and a time when you rejoice about being happy again,

The best way to do that is to honor the feelings you have. If you want to cry, cry. If you are angry, then let that out too. Scream into a pillow or write it down, then tear it up. Letting our bad emotions allows better ones to move back in. It is almost as if the event evicted your hopes and dreams along with what you believed. The bad emotions moved in and then, they started to take over.

PTSD itself stops getting worse as soon as you start talking about it. You take away power from it as soon as you do. But what if you don’t have someone to talk to or are not ready to get help? Then you can talk to God. Maybe you’ll be surprised by your prayer being answered? It will open the door to talking to someone else.

Here is today’s video, A time to heal.
