CNN has a great article on World Mental Health Day

CNN) On this World Mental Health Day, the second of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is clear that people — most people — are struggling. Across cultures, we were experiencing plenty of mental health issues well before the pandemic, including — but not limited to — undue stress and anxiety, poor self-esteem, eating issues, and family strife. All of these challenges have been exacerbated over the course of the past 18 months. I encourage you to take honest stock of your own emotional well-being today. Are you taking care of yourself? Are you suffering unnecessarily? Are you priding yourself on being busy, when you are in fact exhausted? Are you hiding depression or anxiety to protect the people around you?

There is a list of six things you can do.

  • 1 Begin a daily wellness regimen
  • 2 Get outside your own mind
  • 3 Remove the unnecessary
  • 4 Assess your relationships
  • 5 Check with your people
  • 6 Be willing to change and learn

All are good points. The problem is, what if having to deal with COVID-19 is piled onto having to deal with having PTSD? All of those things can help but what helps more is to deal with the primary cause of your trauma…the one that started PTSD to begin. Yes, in other words, start at the beginning because until you defeat that one, all your efforts will, at best, get you to simply break even. If you were already breaking down, then it won’t do you much good.

The first thing you need to deal with is that. Figure out where you are with surviving whatever it was that caused PTSD to infect your life. Did you think God did it to you to punish you and you cannot trust Him? Did you believe He saved you for a reason and He didn’t cause it to happen to you at all?

There is a battle going on, much like we see with COVID-19, where two sides are fighting. One side is trying to do all they can to take care of themselves, their families and their communities. The other side is denying it, refusing to get vaccinated or even do something as simple as wear a mask because they don’t want to believe it.

Same thing with PTSD. We have some people who want to do whatever they can to help others heal, mostly because they either know what you’re going through because they have it too, or because they care about your and want to help. For all others that tell you something stupid like “get over it” or “let it go” or worse, “God only gives us what we can handle” and making you feel as if He’s punishing you or that you are too weak to “deal with it” and move on.

None of that crap is helpful but, it must make them feel better by living a life of judging something because it is easier than understanding it.

Most of us know that the cause of PTSD is usually something someone else does to us. We all have to face the fact that it getting worse is also usually caused by what others say to us afterwards. On the flip side, after someone causes the even that could have killed us, more people show up to help us afterwards. More people in our lives do actually care about us and once they understand what we’re dealing with, they do whatever they can to help us heal.

The key to healing depends on you using your power to #takebackyourlife from #PTSD and opening your eyes to those around you. If they are choosing to remain deluded and deceived, then they are not worth listening to. If they choose to help you, listen to what you’re going through and learn how to help, then allow them to help. One more thing, doing a primal scream once in a while helps too!

Remember, it’s your life…get in and drive!
