Love rebuilding what tornadoes tore down

“We’re going to grieve together, we’re going to dig out and clean up together, and we will rebuild and move forward together. We’re going to get through this. We’re going to get through this together, because that is what we do.” Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear

“Search crews ‘crawl over casualties to get to live victims’ after devastating tornadoes” was the headline from AP reporters
Bruce Schreiner and Dylan Lovan. They did a wonderful job covering the heartache and hope that comes after disasters such as the tornadoes that swept away many parts of several states.

“It was indescribable,” Pastor Joel Cauley said of the disaster scene. “It was almost like you were in a twilight zone. You could smell the aroma of candles, and you could hear the cries of people for help. Candle smells and all the sirens is not something I ever expected to experience at the same time.”

None of the people showing up to help others care about anyone’s political views or religious affiliations. No one offering to help cares if they are Republican, Democrats or don’t vote at all. No one cares who will receive the blood they are lining up to donate in mass. The only thing that matters is, people need help to heal and rebuild their lives. They need help to grieve and heal the wound of their hearts.

And this is what really matters. This is all that is important. While tornadoes ripped apart homes and businesses, they left behind hope in the rubble. They left behind injured bodies and many still missing, but they also left behind acts of human kindness. People showed up to take the injured to the hospitals in pickup trucks. People showed up to deliver food, water, clothing and whatever help they could deliver with weary bodies.

Don’t ask where God was because He is right there within the actions of all the strangers showing up to do whatever they can to rebuild with love, what tornadoes ripped apart.

If you end up with PTSD from all of this, or anything else that comes into your life, remember the lessons we have learned time and time again. Surviving whatever you did, was always followed by acts of human kindness to help you simply because they cared about you.
